Exhibition From Howard Coles
An exhibition by acclaimed contemporary artist Howard Coles will be held at Oriel Ynys Môn, Llangefni between July 30 - September 18, 2011.
The exhibition ‘Walking the Shore' will be officially opened on Saturday July 30, 2011 where there will be an opportunity to meet the artist between 12.00 pm - 2.00 pm.
Principally working in oils and mixed media, this is not so much "an exhibition of paintings" as an exposition of the ways that Howard has illuminated a particular aspect of the coastal landscape.
Living on a relatively narrow peninsula, it would be difficult to escape from the sights and sounds of the sea. For an artist who might be more sensitive than most to the tempo and the dynamics of a landscape bounded by tidal waters, he admits that it would be unnatural to feel different about the proximity of the sea, the vulnerability of its shoreline and the weather patterns which distinguishes this from more mountainous areas of Snowdonia.
Howard Coles was born in Cardiff and studied sculpture at Cardiff College of Art. He now lives in Llanystumdwy. He is a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy.
He has exhibited throughout the UK and worldwide, with his work held by national collections in Singapore and Malaysia. His work is also held in many private collections.
Richard Parry Jones, Corporate Director of Education and Leisure, Isle of Anglesey County Council said, "Howard Coles produces fresh, powerful and imaginative interpretations of our unique landscape".
"The interface between land and sea continues to dominate Howard Coles' paintings - his work is not literal or descriptive but suggests and implies forms and structures where sea meets land", said Pat West, Principal Officer - Museums, Culture and Archives, Isle of Anglesey County Council.
